When you meditate, you want to be surrounded by a really calm setting. The subject that you meditate on is really important. That is what you have to be focused on. People normally meditate thinking about happiness, money, peace, success and love. Before you will be able to effectively meditate, the environment has to become conducive. You will never have the necessary pure thoughts in any meditation room that is smelly, filthy or dirty.

One of the most important parts of having a meditation space that actually works is the color that you choose. It is important that you always make the choices that are the best. Besides location and other things that are interesting for you, it is important that you choose colors that are suitable. This is what you have to know.

Color Choices In Meditation Spaces

Chosen colors do have a strong effect on the space perception associated with the room. As an example, you will think that dark colors are cozy when the truth is that they are going to make the room feel a lot smaller. When you opt for lighter colors, the room will basically open up. However, in this case you may not find the necessary warmth.

You want to paint rooms by choosing colors that are calm for you. In most situations the professionals are going to recommend that you use yellows and blues. This is because they will create a strong calming effect. Blues and greens also work really well together. You never want to use orange or red since the colors are way too provocative and stimulating.

Many of the interior decorators make sure that the bold colors are never overused. This is a really important principle in interior design. However, in the event that there is a color that does resonate with you at a personal level and that has a strong positive effect on you, conventions can be defied. You can easily use all that you want in this case. The focus needs to be put on creating a good meditation environment. That is the most important thing at the end of the day.

Think about the desired room color palette and then trust your instincts. This is really important. All borders and wall decorations that exist and that take focus away from meditation have to be eliminated. In a similar way, what can aid your meditation has to be added. When you do this, it is a certainty that you are going to create a good meditation place.

As an extra tip, you will want to think about lighting and lighting color. Never use fluorescent lights because they are known to cause fatigue and anxiety. You have to avoid them. Try to do all that you can in order to take advantage of natural lighting. Alternatively, use candles in order to create light that is soft.

If you’re carpets are looking a little threadbare, or you want to add some warmth and colour to your hardwood floors, a rug is the perfect ddcor accessory. This simple item can transform the look of a room, taking it from drab to beautiful in just a few seconds.

So how should you use a rug to make a room look more inviting and stylish? Here, we share a few easy tips which will help you to do this.
Balance things out
A rug is a fantastic item with which to counteract any excessively bold colour or patterns in the room, or conversely, to add a splash of colour to an otherwise neutral space. So for instance, if the fabric of the curtains and the sofa in your living room is quite ‘busy’, you can use a block coloured rug to balance this out. Similarly, if the room is filled with plain, simple and neutral toned furnishings, a bright, jewel toned rug will bring the space to life.

Get creative
Think outside the box when it comes to choosing a rug and take your particular home into consideration for instance, you might love the look of a beautiful, large Persian rug, but this might not work well if your home is quite small or is decorated in a minimalist style. There are thousands of rugs for sale, in every shape, size and pattern imaginable, so don’t limit yourself to the traditional rectangular shape, or the classic colours and patterns, if these don’t fit in with your own personal tastes. Most importantly, make sure to carefully measure the space in which you intend to put the rug, before you start to shop, as you don’t want to discover the perfect rug, buy it and find out that it’s too big for the room. You may also want to invest in a rug liner if you are putting the rug on hardwood floors.

Create a focal point
If you’ve just started to decorate the room and are not sure what decorative direction to take, you can use the rug as your starting point; for example:
– A beautiful rug in the centre of a space can serve as the ideal focal point and you can base your choice of other soft furnishings on the tones and patterns in the rug.
– If you want to use one room for multiple purposes for example, if you want to use a section of your living room as a small home office of sorts, a rug can help you to achieve this.
– You can section off a particular corner of a room by using a rug in the area that you want to partition and another rug around which you can focus the main attention of the room.

These are very simple but effective ways to visually divide up room space. However, make sure that the rugs style, shape and colour complement one another they needn’t be identical, though – there are lots of rugs for sale which are similar looking and work well together aesthetically.

The new year has come and the new home design catalogues, as well. Here are five bedroom design ideas for 2013, ranging from the simple and clean lines of soft contemporary to the more raw look of natural motifs, that might inspire you to finally roll up sleeves and do that bedroom remodeling project you have planned for quite some time.

Bring the Nature into Your Home

Recently, natural home design has become very popular among people who try to reconnect with the surrounding them world. This hasn’t changed in 2013, and natural motifs are still on trend.

Use unrefined, unorthodox materials to give your bedroom a raw yet unique look. As for the colour scheme, consider shades of green and blue. Focus on more soft hues. This will create a comfortable and warm environment to relax in. Open-plan storage made of natural woods will match perfectly the relaxed colour scheme.

Unique Design

Instead of going for a popular theme that can be seen in many bedrooms, go for unique one. Combination of different styles and accessories is the key to an outstanding look in 2013, according to many designers. They suggest using modern and old designing elements together into one conception to avoid clichéd designs, and achieve uniqueness. Also, focus on things with long-term value and design to place in your bedroom. This way, your room will not only be modern in 2013 but the years ahead, as well.

Soft Contemporary

Living in a traditional house doesn’t mean you can’t transform your bathroom according to the new trends. There are many warm and soft lines that will allow you to turn your bedroom into a modern piece of art while keeping the original style of your home.

Break the traditional white and cream décor by implementing dark highlights into your bedroom design. A sliding wardrobe is another great addition to a traditional bedroom. It will maximize your storage options and keep the space looking clean and clutter-free.

Floral Themes

Floral themes were very popular last year, and it seems they will remain as such through 2013, as well.

You can turn your bedroom into a designing ideal very easily using a variety of floral-designed materials, form bedding to wallpapers. If you are not keen on an all-floral design, you still can make your bedroom looking stylish by using just a few colourful floral accents.

Black and White

Black and white design never gets old, and is always on trend. You may find it hard to nail this style, but if you succeed, the results will be amazing. Professional designers recommend using white as basis and back for details: side tables, lampshades, simple clocks, pictures’ and mirrors’ frames and so on.

Surely, 2013 will offer many designing alternatives, but it seems these five will be the main trends through the year when it comes to bedrooms. So, keep them in mind when planning a bedroom renovation.

Our home is the space that reflects our personality and style. The way we decorate and maintain our home is influence by our lifestyle. The same is the case with selection of paint for our home. But apart from our personal choice and preferences, there are certain things to be considered while selecting paint for the house.

The paint colour that one chooses for the room should have direct bearing on the size and décor theme of the room. While bright and bold colours like red and orange would suit large rooms, it is the pastel shades like light blue and green that would look good in small rooms. Similarly for a more soothing effect one should go for shades of the same colour where as colours that are opposite in the colour wheel like blue and orange should be used together for a more bright appearance.

Paints are mainly available in latex or oil based form. While latex paint is easy to clean and long lasting, oil based paints are used as primer for wood moldings. The thumb rule is that the glossier the paint the easier it is to clean it up. Hence it would be a wise decision to use glossy paints in kid’s room and those areas which tend to get dirty fast like the kitchen. But imperfections, if any, would be more apparent if glossy paints are used as it provides a smooth and even finish. If glossy paint seems to be more shiny and expensive, then one can opt for semi-glossy or satin finish paint which is more budget friendly. Exactly opposite to the glossy finish is the matt finish paint. This paint is best suited on walls with lots of imperfection as the matt finish can conceal all irregularities.

Existing décor and theme of the room plays a very important role in selecting the paint. If the theme of décor of the room is traditional then one should go for lighter tones like beige and white whereas colours like pink and green would be apt for a more casual décor.

Light is another factor that affects the selection of paint. If the room gets more natural light, then there is no harm in going for bold color. On the other hand a room with less natural light should definitely have light colored walls to make the room look bright and airy. Similarly there are certain rooms that are hit by direct sunlight. The paint in the room tends to fade fast when compared to other. This should also be considered while selecting the paint color.

Last but not the least; the budget factor should also be taken into consideration. This is especially so for new owners who might not know the hidden and other related cost of painting. As the quality of paint goes up so does the cost. Similarly certain colours might need 2-3 coat of paint to get the desired effect which can again push up the cost.

A careful consideration of all above factors helps in making the painting job less expensive and cumbersome.

If putting together a room to rival a staged home in a model home is not one of your strengths, don’t fret. As long as you learn the basics, you won’t end up in a boring, forgettable, uninviting house.

It really doesn’t matter what your household budget is for home decor and furniture, it’s all relative. Once you learn the key components used by professional interior designers, you can raid garage sales, thrift stores, and Craigslist to achieve that put-together look you envision.

The five things you should know are:

Having a focal point is the starting point. When you walk into your main family room, you want something that is the main attraction. This is oftentimes the television or fireplace. It could also be a unique piece of furniture or an ornate rug.

Always keep scale and proportion in mind. This means if you have a big room, you don’t want to shortchange yourself on furniture. Otherwise the room will just look large and bare. Likewise, if you’re furnishing a small room, don’t buy that huge, overstuffed sectional. It will crowd the room and won’t be inviting. If you’re looking for artwork and wall decor, make sure the art you choose doesn’t get swallowed up by the wall. You want to consider how individual items fit into the room as a whole; this is proportion.

Color is key. The color you choose for a room, more than any other design element, evokes mood. In general, red is considered the highest energy color. It’s good for dining rooms because it draws people together and tends to increase appetite. Blues and greens tend to soothe and are popular choices for bedrooms and bathrooms. Yellow hues invoke a happy, inviting feeling and are a good choice for a kitchen. Purple provides a luxurious, rich feel and is a popular bedroom color. Although color experts offer suggestions, the colors you choose have to reflect your tastes and personality, so always let that be your primary guide.

Design with a rhythm in mind. Blend similar elements or accent colors. One popular, easy way to incorporate rhythm into your design is using three candles or vases of graduated sizes: small, medium and large. You should also be mindful of transitions. Use hall runners that incorporate colors of your main family room and colors in the bedrooms that the hall is connected to.

Contrast is key. You can follow all these principles and still be left with a room that gives you the blahs. The way to infuse interest is to provide some contrast. This is usually done with color: black and white; orange and purple or blue; red and shades of green. Contrasting colors should come in small bursts or pops: pillows on the sofa, lampshades, small appliances or teakettles in the kitchen, a vase with contrasting color flowers. It’s important not to overdo the contrast or it becomes very hard on the eye and just looks like a big, jumbled mess.
