Tour guides can be a big help when you are on a foreign country. However, there are times when this friend of ours turns into foe. Here are some signs that will tell you if your tour guide is ripping you off:

1. The tourist guide asks you for money while you are on tour. When you choose a tour guide, it is expected that all the fees have been covered when you have made an upfront payment. Also, it is expected that you do not have to shell out any money since you have settled the fee that covers the tourist guide’s ‘package deal’. However, there are some tour guides that will try to coerce money from you. They would ask for more money saying that the prices of the tickets have gone up or there have been some additions on your itinerary. That is why it is best that you prepare yourself for things like these and don’t give in, no matter how persuasive the guide can be. There are also times when guides will be asking you to pay for their lodging. You should not do so unless such conditions are stated in the contract that you have signed.

2. The tourist guide speaks in a different language as yours. When choosing a tour guide, one of your primary considerations should be the language used by the guide. Also, it is best that you ask the guide to always speak in the language that you understand. Why is this so? If your guide speaks in the native tongue and you have no idea what he is saying, it is easier for him to make deals that he will use to rip you off. Because of this, it is best that you make an effort to familiarize yourself with some of the most used local phrases. In this way, you will be able to decipher each conversation your tour guide makes.

3. The tour guide asks for high commissions or tips. Tipping etiquette vary from one place to another, In Egypt, an extravagant amount of your money will surely be given to tips. Most tourists rely on the tourist guide to tell them how much tip they should be giving. However, there are instances wherein the guide connives with the waiters, busboys and the likes so they can get fat cash from you. This is why it is best that you do some research before your tour so that you will be able to know when you are being ripped off. Also, most tourist guides work on commission basis wherein they will persuade tourists to buy a ‘special souvenir’ in a certain store where they are affiliated in.

4. The tour guide takes an off the beaten path that looks suspicious. Since you are not familiar with the place, it is quite easy for the travel guide to make up and invent special sceneries and attractions. Since you are ‘adventurous’, you will definitely be excited about what’s in store on these attractions. For times like these, it is always best that you have your phone with you. Also, try to know the contact numbers of the local police so that you can call them at anytime.

Business travel is not the same animal that it used to be, thanks in no small part to the connective power of 21st-century information technology. The ability to host teleconferences, deliver digital products and correspond through virtual offices has eliminated the need to travel in many situations.

That being said, there are still situations that require businesspersons to pack a bag, board a plane and jump cities from time to time. However, the school of business travel is not as strong as it once was, and many have lost touch with the art of travelling for work without bowling yourself over with stress.

With that in mind, have a look at the following four tricks that all business travellers should master:

1.Leverage Your Smart Phone to its Fullest Potential

We all know that smart phones open up a host of opportunities and functionalities through the suite of apps that powers them. However, few of us leverage the power of our smart phones to anywhere near their fullest potential. This goes twice over for business travellers. Just take the following two situations as examples:

– You’re sitting at the airport and would like to log onto the Internet while you’re waiting, but the Wi-Fi fees are absurd. However, assuming you have a comprehensive data package, all it takes is a few swipes and taps, and your phone will be broadcasting wireless Internet that you can pick up with your notebook or tablet.

– You are at the car hire kiosk and would like to upgrade to a GPS navigation model. However, rather than shell out the extra quid, you just take the basic model, then use a special stand to mount your smart phone as a GPS navigator in your car. You get all the functionality (albeit on a slightly smaller, but still mounted, screen) with no extra surcharges.

2.Tap in to Every Global Network You Can

This depends a great deal on the types of membership you company offers. One of the most lucrative (and increasingly common) is membership with an office services provider. Businesses that sign up can take advantage of virtual office services, an international network of temporary offices and facilities and – perhaps most important to the business traveller – an extensive network of more than 1,500 business lounges around the world. These little oases are just what most business travellers need after a stressful day in transit.

3.Learn How to Travel Light

Packing light saves on times, money and the need to trust other people with your belongings. In so many words, it eliminates stress. Can you fit everything you need into a single tote or carry-on bag? While the answer certainly depends on the nature of your trip, it’s duration and the size of your bag, there is still an art to packing. The trick is knowing what you will and won’t need. In terms of clothing, it also doesn’t hurt to tweak the wisdom of Willie Nelson: know when to roll ‘em, know when to fold ‘em.

4.Become a ‘Trusted Traveler’

This is especially important if you do much travelling inside of US borders. With a nominal fee and a little bit of pre-screening, you can join the ranks of travellers who are known to and trusted by US Customs and Border Protection. This means that you can enter the airport, check in at a special kiosk and bypass the security nightmare that most travellers start fretting over the night before they depart. ‘Trusted Traveler’ status lasts for five years and works for security checks in Canada, as well.

There are so many wonderful holiday destinations around the world, and for most of us a summer wouldn’t be complete without a week or two in a sun-kissed resort. A trip abroad allows us to recharge the batteries of life, and to temporarily forget all about the stresses and strains of our work and family commitments.

Having said that, since the advent of the digital age many of us make sure we are able to remain in touch our normal lives while we’re away. Whether we choose to take a laptop, tablet or cellphone with us, or perhaps we make a daily trip to the local Internet café, we don’t quite feel as though we can relax properly without knowing everything is OK back home. Here are four common reasons to get onto to the web during a vacation.

Send and receive emails

The first thing most people do when they log on to the Internet when on holiday is to sign into their email account. For many tourists, the email system is the only way to remain in touch with people back home, so they therefore feel happier once they have ascertained that there are no issues that need to be dealt with. A sizable proportion of travellers also check their work inbox at least once or twice while they’re away as well.

Find out the sports results

OK it’s fair to assume this is mainly a male thing, but it doesn’t make it any less important. There are plenty of tourists who won’t be able to relax fully on even the most comfortable sun-lounger if they don’t know whether the New York Jets, Manchester United or the All Blacks won their most recent game. Thankfully, the Internet makes it easy to keep up with the sporting action from all across the globe.

Social networking

A quick look at Facebook or Twitter is often all that’s needed to keep us up to date with all the news and gossip from home. Social networking sites have become increasingly popular in recent times – there are more than 160 million Facebook users in the USA alone – and for many people the day isn’t truly complete without a look at the statuses of friends, work colleagues and family members.

Check out the weather forecast

Looking at online weather forecasts on holiday serves a double purpose. You can find out hopefully how hot and sunny it’s going to be in your chosen destination in the coming days and, perhaps more importantly, how wet and miserable it will be back home. Needless to say, it can be great fun to let everyone know just how warm you currently are and how the only way to keep cool is by ordering an ice cold drink.

An annual trip to a sunny holiday resort is something most of us look forward to every year, but in recent times many people have wanted something more. And because of this, a growing number of travellers include a short city break in their schedule. There are plenty of destinations to choose from, of course, but perhaps the jewel in the crown is the historic and spectacular capital of the United Kingdom.

Thanks to an enormous collection of monuments, landmarks, museums, attractions, restaurants, hotels and live entertainment venues, London has something to offer everyone. Whether you like to check out the cultural highlights such as the Tate Gallery or you want to view the city from on high via the London Eye, you will always find something in this city that will catch your fancy.

Most city break visitors will only have three or four days to spare when they make a trip to London, and will therefore have to work hard to pack everything into the allotted time. As a result, the mornings and afternoons are extremely hectic, and in the evenings they rarely have much energy left to see the city at night. It’s a great shame, because the Theatreland district is always worth a visit.

An amazing choice

At any given time, there will be dozens of superb shows playing in the West End, so even if you feel exhausted you should still make the effort to see one. After all, you can always catch up on sleep when you get back home again. This glamorous area is usually buzzing with excitement, and a number of the theatres themselves are steeped in a rich history that dates back many decades.

Many people head to the nearby restaurants for a pre-show dinner, and several of these establishments offer special deals for diners at this time. This is especially good news for those who are on a budget, of course, and for the weary traveller they also provide a golden opportunity to recharge the batteries in preparation for an evening of stylish entertainment in a local theatre.

Whether you prefer to tap your feet as you take in a spectacular musical or perhaps to sit on the edge of your seat as an intricate drama unfolds, you’ll find exactly what you need in the West End. Many tourists head to the famous ticket booth (which is located in Leicester Square) in the afternoon just to see what might be available for the evening’s performances. It’s a great way to save money, and to add an element of surprise to the experience.
