The highly successful Don Miguel Ruiz is definitely no stranger to the best sellers list of The New York Times. His book, “The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide To Personal Freedom” is the one that was the most successful and it is also the one that made him known all around the world. As you can easily imagine, this basically means that this is a book that you may want to consider reading.
From the very first sentence you read, you notice the fact that Don Miguel Ruiz is really passionate about what he writes and that is a great thing because it makes for a really good writing style. In most cases a writer that believes a lot in what he says will overthink and will not offer writings in a way that the reader can understand. You will love the fact that this is not the case with The Four Agreements.
The only thing that you may not appreciate is the fact that there are many assumptions that are made by Ruiz. They are not explained and if you do not agree with them, there is a pretty good possibility that you will not like the conclusions.
This book does not just discuss the Four Agreements highlighted by Ruiz. They are, of course, covered in separate chapters but you will also get to read one chapter about ancient Toltec wisdom, an introductory chapter named “Domestication and the Dream Of The Planet” and a last chapter that tries to teach you how to achieve personal freedom.
Miguel Ruiz shows us that proscribed cultural norms are restrictive and they have a negative impact on our personal freedom. This is basically what the book is about and what you will spend the most time pondering about.
This book comes with a really positive message and readers are basically challenged to find the necessary courage to simply challenge the standard norms and beliefs while also trying to avoid the negative influences that surrounded us for our entire lives. The message is beautiful but not everyone is going to agree with it.
On the whole, if you are looking for a personal development book, this one may be something that you will love. The premise behind the writing is that every single individual is free to choose while surrounded by a world filled with suffering, violence and chaos. We have to recommend the book for the message offered and say that you will surely also love the artwork included.
