<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Cognitive distortions</h2>



<p>Cognitive distortions are negative or irrational patterns of thinking which obstruct mental wellbeing and can interfere with efforts to promote it. Such distortions may contribute to anxiety, depression and even behavioral problems like substance abuse; thankfully many such distorted thought patterns can be reversed once they&#8217;re awared.</p>



<p>Mental filtering is a form of cognitive distortion in which individuals disregard any positive aspects of an experience in favor of solely considering its negative components. Also referred to as discounting positive aspects, mental filtering shares many similarities with negativity bias &#8211; another type of cognitive distortion.</p>



<p>Negative mental filtering is a cognitive disorder that impacts individuals of all ages and backgrounds, contributing to depression and anxiety disorders as well as other emotional concerns. To combat it, try thinking of all of its positive aspects before making judgments on whether something is good or bad.</p>



<p>All-or-nothing thinking is another form of cognitive distortion that can lead to feelings of frustration, anger and resentment. This involves viewing people, events or circumstances as either black or white and believing there is no middle ground; for instance if you fail a test you might believe you won&#8217;t pass any more; if your sibling doesn&#8217;t get along with you it might lead to belief that no one likes you.</p>



<p>Overgeneralization is a type of cognitive distortion that leads to catastrophizing, or negative thinking. Catastrophizing occurs when we assume the worst will happen even though no evidence supports such predictions; for instance, we might fear taking on new jobs because we think we will lose them.</p>



<p>Emotional reasoning is a cognitive distortion in which you mistake your emotions for reality, leading to self-criticism, low self-esteem and relationship problems as well as substance abuse due to believing your negative feelings as indicators of worth as a person.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Mental filtering</h2>



<p>Mental filtering is a type of cognitive distortion that leads to negative thinking. This happens when people focus on and magnify negative aspects of an experience while disregarding any positive ones; this creates a pessimistic viewpoint and may cause self-defeating patterns to form in themselves. <p>&#8220;All or nothing&#8221; thinking is another type of mental filter, whereby only negative aspects of any situation are perceived. For instance, you might view your coworker as rude or that you&#8217;re not good enough at your job; or overgeneralize by generalizing &#8220;All my colleagues are rude&#8221;. Such thinking patterns can lead to feelings of hopelessness and despair as well as shame and guilt &#8211; so seeking professional assistance for assistance in breaking this cycle of negative thought patterns may help.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Emotional reasoning</h2>



<p>Emotional reasoning is a form of cognitive distortion in which people mistakenly believe their feelings as reliable indicators of reality. <p>Dwelling on the past is a common form of negative thinking that may stem from many different sources, including negative self-perceptions, past trauma or humiliation, fearing what the future may hold, and/or wanting to escape reality of present-day living; for instance, someone dwelling on how much older they are becoming may struggle with coming to grips with reality: for instance they may struggle adjusting to being less quick-witted, flexible or adaptable as before as they try to remember past life recollections instead.</p>



<p>Breaking free of negative thinking can be challenging, but mental health therapists are here to help. A few strategies may be employed in order to break this pattern of thought by identifying and addressing specific patterns in thoughts that have developed over time.</p>

<p>Patients with spiritual backgrounds often report positive coping mechanisms when facing illness and death, drawing comfort from religious/spiritual practices as well as finding strength in supportive communities.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Asking for Guidance</h2>



<p>When making spiritual choices, seeking guidance is vitally important. From aligning yourself with God&#8217;s will and placing trust in Him to finding guidance on how best to navigate challenging life circumstances, spiritual guidance provides clarity and direction needed for making the right choices.</p>

While some individuals are more open than others to receiving guidance through external signs, it&#8217;s wise to remain patient if no immediate answer presents itself. Keep in mind that when your mind aligns with its true Self, the greater the odds are of receiving high-quality guidance (so long as your ego doesn&#8217;t interfere).</p>



<p>By reading and reflecting upon Scripture, you can gain wisdom and direction from God. All Scripture was inspired by Him and is &#8220;profitable for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness&#8221; (2 Timothy 3:16). By reading Scripture regularly and studying it carefully, it helps you discern God&#8217;s will in any situation as well as self-centered motives when making decisions regarding how best to move forward with an endeavor.</p>



<p>An alternative way of seeking guidance is turning to your loved ones and praying for their assistance. You could ask Aunt Polly on the other side, angels, totem animals or the universe itself to send their assistance as you make decisions and seek answers.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Setting an Intention</h2>

<p>Setting an intention can feel magical as the Universe conspires behind-the-scenes to help bring it about. By being clear about your intention, you activate your Higher Self/Source/Spirit/God (you choose!), who then works tirelessly behind-the-scenes to turn it into reality. Even if your intention appears different than expected, it will still work towards its best possible result.</p>



<p>Once you set an intention, it&#8217;s essential to revisit it throughout your day. Reciting or writing out your intention on paper could help, as could having someone repeat back to you three times what they heard aloud; hearing your goal repeated back can further cement its power.</p>

<p>In order to make spiritual choices, it&#8217;s essential that you remain open-minded. This includes being accepting of ideas, experiences and people without prejudging them &#8211; as well as opening yourself up to the Sacred. <p>Due to confirmation bias and its tendency for distorting perceptions, an open mind can often reject information which challenges existing beliefs, so it&#8217;s crucial that individuals be cognizant of this phenomenon when making decisions and seek ways to minimize its influence.</p>



<p>By practicing mindfulness daily, you can train your brain to be more open. Mindfulness involves paying attention to thoughts, feelings, and actions so as to identify when your ego is taking over and you want it all under control. Overcoming such urges allows transcendent emotions such as hopefulness, kindness, gratitude and awe to emerge and guide spiritual decision making processes.</p>



<p>An open mind makes it easier to discern God&#8217;s will for your life. However, it&#8217;s essential to keep in mind that He ultimately decides your path; so if you feel strongly guided by Him it&#8217;s crucial to listen and follow his commandments &#8211; He never asks us to do something contrary to His words!</p>



<p>If you&#8217;re uncertain of your course of action, seek guidance from an established mentor and then breathe deeply and trust that God is with you to guide your steps toward a positive result.</p>



<p>Building a robust spirituality takes time and effort. But finding moments of transcendence through practices like mindfulness, exploring other people&#8217;s spiritualities, or seeking the Sacred can provide moments of transcendence that bring hope, kindness, self-compassion and gratitude into your life &#8211; helping you connect with your soul and find meaning in it all.</p>



<p>Staying open-minded when making spiritual choices will allow you to expand as an individual and become more sensitive to God&#8217;s guidance, while equipping you with all of the resources necessary for successful spiritual journey.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Listening to Your Heart</h2>



<p>When making spiritual choices, your heart is often your most reliable guide. While seeking input from others may also be necessary, your intuition should also play a part in decision-making &#8211; be it goose bumps, inspiration or chills; intuition manifests through feelings, thoughts and body signals that manifest themselves into goose bumps, chills or tightening of stomach or feeling of contraction; for instance if expanding and expansive are felt that indicates yes while tightening or tightening may indicate no.</p>



<p>Your heart is more than an organ; it is the center of your spiritual and emotional existence, calling to you onward to your true path. Therefore, it is vitally important that when making important personal and emotionally charged decisions it is crucial that we listen to what our heart tells us.</p>



<p>If you&#8217;re struggling to listen to what your heart is telling you, meditation and other spiritual practices that help relax the mind may be useful in clarifying its message. Ask God for assistance as well if necessary so you make the appropriate choices &#8211; this should not just be done once but throughout every decision-making process.</p>



<p>Test out making decisions using both logic and intuition to see where each leads you, then compare this direction with that suggested by your heart a month or so later. By following both sources of guidance you&#8217;ll come to appreciate their individual powers of guidance and wisdom! When you follow your heart it will lead you toward loving, generous actions for both yourself and others! Your heart doesn&#8217;t care about money, luxury items or possessions &#8211; only happiness, spiritual growth and emotional maturation matter to it!</p>

<p>Elon Musk is an eccentric billionaire renowned for working tirelessly to shape our world for the better. From electric cars and reusable rockets to brain interfaces and brain implants he provides us with so much insight.</p>



<p>His source of inspiration comes from various sources; one being Issac Asimov&#8217;s Foundation series.</p>

<p>Personality-wise, Elon Musk has been married twice and is a proud parent to six children &#8211; twin sons Griffin and Xavier as well as triplet triplets Kai, Saxon, and Damian &#8211; including triplet triplet triplet Kai Saxon Damian who died at 10 weeks due to sudden infant death syndrome in 2002. After his divorce with model Justine Wilson in 2012 he met actress Talulah Riley whom they would eventually have daughter Luciana with in 2021 and recently announced they will have another child via surrogacy!</p>

<p>Students without academic goals tend to react passively when reviewing progress reports or graded work without much awareness about how well they&#8217;re progressing. Setting SMART (specific, measurable, actionable, realistic and time-bound) goals for them can increase motivation and engagement with learning processes.</p>



<p>Start off by having students identify both personal and academic goals for this year.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Write Your Goals Down</h2>



<p>As a teacher, you can assist your students in clarifying their goals by encouraging them to write them down. Doing so helps students focus and reduces distractions from competing for their time and attention; additionally it gives clear indication of their work objectives, increasing value of return on effort.</p>



<p>Researchers found in one study that people who wrote down their goals were 10 times more likely to achieve them compared with those who didn&#8217;t. This increase can be attributed to writing goals down forcing you to be specific; specificity helps narrow focus quickly while providing short-term motivation and clarity of direction for future goals.</p>

<p>Teachers should celebrate both individual and classroom achievements. This could involve anything from creating a class chart with students who are improving in math or writing to creating a celebration board where they post students&#8217; achievements (if they achieve 100% on an Independent Digital Lesson for instance they can have their name listed there in a special section on the board).</p>



<p>Celebrate with parents. Doing so will allow them to feel proud of their child while providing much-needed support during his/her academic journey.</p>
