Thanksgiving 2013 is just around the corner and as time passes, we naturally tend to think that we are not properly prepared. That is normal and you should not worry since every single person preparing for a large Thanksgiving dinner can feel like that. Remember the fact that this holiday is all about gratitude and family.

Tips on how to get ready for Thanksgiving 2013

No matter what you do, your family will appreciate the effort that you put in. However, this does not mean that you should just do whatever you may feel like. After all, if you are a host, you need to make sure that your guests feel great. Here are some tips to help you prepare for Thanksgiving 2013:

By Ed Schipul under CC BY-SA 2.0

1. Remember Why You Celebrate Thanksgiving 2013!

This is what counts the most. You can basically plan the perfect Thanksgiving dinner and still end up forgetting the essentials as you get caught up in all the small tasks that have to be performed. Christmas is not the only family time that you get. Thanksgiving is equally important. Remind the children about the Pilgrims and tell them the story of the Mayflower. The first ever Thanksgiving was a reason to celebrate and that is exactly the atmosphere that you want in your home. The Pilgrims are the reason why USA is the great country it is. Remember and cherish what they did while telling children all about that.

2. Planning Your 2013 Thanksgiving

By liz west under CC BY 2.0

Never wait until the final minutes to prepare and plan Thanksgiving 2013. This is the biggest mistake that you could make. Shop smart and always make sure that you buy everything in time. If you wait for too long, you might not find what you need in the stores. This is especially true in the event that you want to cook some really special Thanksgiving recipes that require rare ingredients.

Every single year there is a Thanksgiving food rush. That is why you have to prepare for at least 1 week ahead of time. Shop for those items that can get spoiled fast close to the holiday! Everything else should be bought ahead of time. Also, remember these tips:

By Nakeva Corothers under CC BY-SA 2.0

All pie crusts and bread dough can be frozen ahead of time

The sweet potatoes can be cut and peeled ahead of time and stored in refrigerator baggies or even in a mason jar

Pay close attention to the Turkey Recipes that you will prepare so that you know exactly how much time you need

Don’t forget about Thanksgiving side dishes and Thanksgiving desserts

By alaina buzas under CC BY 2.0

3. Pay Close Attention To Kids

We already mentioned the fact that you should teach people to be grateful through Thanksgiving 2013 but we also have to understand the fact that kids do get bored easily. If you have children or children will come over to your house for Thanksgiving dinner, you need to factor this into your planning. You can keep them entertained through Thanksgiving games for kids or through special Thanksgiving crafts. Also, if possible, try to arrange some sort of play area for them to have fun while grown-ups talk. It is also quite an interesting idea to arrange a small table for the young ones so that they can enjoy their own company. Grown-up talk is never entertaining for children during Thanksgiving.

By teresaphillips1965 under CC BY-SA 2.0

If you plan to have the family over for an entire day with a Thanksgiving dinner planned at night, you can use the day to entertain everyone. If you have a backyard, make sure that you use it. You can play some football or just organize a really fast barbeque in the morning for a quick snack. Make sure that it is also festive.

4. Buy Your Turkey Ahead Of Time!

This might seem like common sense but it is something that we tend to forget so often. You cannot really have Thanksgiving without turkey. The only option when that happens is when you opt for alternative dishes but even then, you still need turkey breast or similar meat.

By Cedar Summit Farm under CC BY-SA 2.0

The problem with turkeys is that they do sell really fast. This is especially true for the heavy ones. If you plan to cook dinner for a larger number of people, it is vital that you buy you turkey ahead of cooking date. This guarantees that you actually have what to cook. The turkey can easily be refrigerated until it I needed.

5. Don’t Forget About Thanksgiving 2013 Decorations!

While most people stay focused on what they will cook and do not care much about decorations, you need to be smart about everything and understand the fact that the atmosphere is what makes everything a lot better than it might seem at first glance. Just think about going into a home that is festively decorated. Now compare with your regular interior design.

By Russ under CC BY-ND 2.0

There are not many modifications that are necessary. For instance, you can simply add some covers to the chairs or use festive decorations for the table. Make sure that your food is also arranged in a way that is attractive and try to just do all that you can so that your home is as welcoming as possible.

Thanksgiving 2013 Will Be Memorable If You Are Grateful!

By Cedar Summit Farm under CC BY-SA 2.0

It is really easy to say this but it is a piece of advice that you have to remember at all times. Unfortunately, there are so many people that get tangled up in all that they have to do and they basically forget to be grateful about the opportunity of having the family over. Do not overdo it! It is a guarantee that your family will love what you did and all that is necessary is to do as much as you can. This holiday is not about competition. It is all about being grateful and having quality family time.

It is always a great idea to ask the guests what they would enjoy doing or eating ahead of time. That would help you to have something available for everyone. In addition, all the guests would thus feel welcomed and appreciated, which is exactly what Thanksgiving is all about!

Most people prefer their thanksgiving desserts after the main course while some do want to taste something sweet before the turkey. No matter what your personal tastes are, it is a guarantee that you also want desserts during this traditional holiday family meet-up and that is why we should talk about some that are simply delicious. Do not stay focused only on the Thanksgiving turkey and make sure that you also allow yourself enough time to prepare desserts.

By Patrick Briggs under CC BY 2.0

Pecan Pie

The pecan pie is ready in a little over 4 hours but 3 of those hours are inactive time. It is recommended to start cooking the day before thanksgiving so that you will not be bothered much. The ingredients quantities mentioned below are enough for 12 servings. Make sure that you adjust accordingly so that everyone can taste this great classical thanksgiving pie.

Ingredients for the pie crust:

1 teaspoon of salt

1 egg – it has to be beaten lightly

3 cups of flour

3 quarters of a cup of lard or vegetable shortening

3 quarters of a cup of butter – salted and cut into pieces

1 tablespoon of white vinegar – distilled

Ingredients for the filling:

3 tablespoons of sugar – preferably brown

1 cup of regular granulated sugar

Half a tablespoon of salt

3 whole eggs

1 teaspoon of vanilla

1 third of a cup of salted butter – melted

1 cup of corn syrup

How to prepare:

Obviously, the pie crust is first. Mix salt and flour in a regular bowl. Add the lard or vegetable shortening and then the salted butter. Use a dough cutter to mix. Continue until the entire mixture looks like pebbles. Add 5 tablespoons of cold water, white vinegar and the egg. Stir. Divide your dough in 2 equal parts and then chill. Half of the dough is necessary for the pecan pie. You can use the rest for another thanksgiving dessert or for another occasion.

It is now time to make your filling. Mix the brown sugar, granulated sugar, corn syrup, salt, vanilla, eggs and butter in a regular bowl. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Take out the dough (half of what you made) and roll it on a flat surface that was lightly floured. Make sure that you roll until the result fits the pie pan. Add the pecans on the pie shell’s bottom. Add the entire syrup mixture and cover everything with foil.

Put the pie in the oven and bake for half an hour. Take it out, remove the foil and then put it back in for twenty more minutes. Pay close attention to not burning the pecans or the crust. When you will remove the pie, it has to not be too jiggly. If that is the case, add foil again and bake more, a maximum of 20 minutes. Although it is a little confusing, it is normal to have baking time that varies.

When you are done, allow the pecan pie to cool overnight (recommended) or for some hours. This is one of the Thanksgiving desserts that tastes great but is a little confusing to make. You might want to try it out before Thanksgiving.

By @joefoodie under CC BY 2.0

Classic Apple Crisp

Out of the different thanksgiving desserts, the apple crisp we present here is one that is really attractive as it is really easy and fast. You just need 1 hour and 20 minutes to make it and just 20 minutes have to be spent on actually cooking. If you do not know what dessert to make and you are in a hurry, this is the one to try out.

Necessary Ingredients:

1 grated orange zest

1 grated lemon zest

5 pounds of apples (preferably McIntosh or Macoun)

2 tablespoons of lemon juice and 2 tablespoons of orange juice (both freshly squeezed)

Half a cup of granulated sugar

1 tablespoon of nutmeg

2 tablespoons of ground cinnamon

Ingredients for the topping:

3 quarters of a cup of brown sugar – light

3 quarters of a cup of granulated sugar

1 and a half cups of flour

1 cup of oatmeal

Half a cup of salt

Half a pound of unsalted butter – must be diced

How To Prepare

Your oven has to be preheated to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Take a baking dish (preferably oval) and butter it. Cut, core and peel the apples into wedges. Add the juices, the zests, spices and sugar. Put the mixture into the dish.

For the topping, combine the sugars, oatmeal, salt, flour and cold butter with an electric mixer. Use the paddle attachment and a bowl. Mixture should happen at low speeds until everything is crumbly and butter is similar in size to peas. Add everything over the apples.

The crisp should be placed on a sheet and then baked for 60 minutes. The top has to be brown and the apples bubbly. It is best to serve warm.

Extra Recommendations For Thanksgiving Desserts

It is a very good idea to consider the personal preferences of the guests when picking what thanksgiving desserts to cook. The two that are recommended are great and will be appreciated by most people but there is always the possibility that, for instance, someone does not like apples. In order to have a perfect Thanksgiving dinner, it is a very good idea to cook at least two desserts. That will allow people to choose exactly what they like and will increase the likelihood that everyone enjoys the experience.

One more thing should be said about the available time. Do not stay focused too much on the dessert if you do not actually have time to cook it. Sometimes it is better to order Thanksgiving desserts than to risk not having a really well cooked turkey. After all, the main dish is the priority and this is what you need to stay focused on.

Have a lovely 2013 Thanksgiving and share your desserts related tips to everyone in the comments section below.

For adults thanksgiving is all about giving thanks to the things that are important in life and having a quiet day with the family. For children, it is almost impossible to understand what this day is all about. They naturally want to have fun while playing thanksgiving games. When there are a lot of family members around, we are faced with many situations in which they would not enjoy themselves.

Interesting Thanksgiving Games

In order to keep children entertained and teach them what Thanksgiving is all about, we can basically plan some games that would make the entire experience more memorable. The games are usually fun for adults too as they get in touch with the joyful side of things.

Let us consider 2 thanksgiving games that you might want to play.

Chopsticks Dexterity Game

By Marc Majcher under CC BY-SA 2.0

This game is also known as Chopsticks Pass-Along and it can be quite a lot of fun for kids and even for adults. You can use the game to fill the time that appears between the courses. You will need acorn, chopsticks, an unshelled walnut, a cranberry, a plate and a pea.

Every participant needs chopsticks. Place the acorn, cranberry, pea and walnut on a plate right next to the oldest of all the players. The chopsticks have to be used to pass the objects around. The natural order is largest to smallest. Passing happens from left to right. The person to the right needs to receive the object from you and give it to the next participant.

If you drop the item, you have to start from the beginning. If the children cannot use chopsticks, teaspoons can also be used. This is especially useful if the children are too young and let’s face it! It is tough to use chopsticks even as an adult. You can, of course, improvise with the items that would be passed along.

The Wall Football Game

This is quite an interesting twist of the Pin The Tail On The Donkey child’s game. You will need to have a blindfold, a set of poster tacks, white paint marker, card stocks and a poster board. Create the goal post with the use of poster boards. The crossbar and the uprights have to be 20 inches long and your post will be 6 inches tall. Poster tack is used in order to attach the poster board to the wall.

Create footballs out of card stocks. You can easily find some scrapbook supplies at the local craft stores if you want the stocks to look like leather. White paint market can be used to decorate your footballs and add the names of the children.

The gameplay starts with one player that stands away from goal at a distance of around 6 feet. He/she is blindfolded, spun around and then set loose. The purpose is to stick the football right between uprights. You are not allowed to reach out with the empty hand so that you can feel walls. A number of points is awarded for every goal and you play as many rounds as you want. The highest score always wins.

By fivehanks under CC BY 2.0

Children Need To Have Fun

This is what counts the most at the end of the day. The 2 thanksgiving games that we mentioned above are a lot of fun and they can even be played by adults, although the main focus is to keep children entertained. You can also play others. Try to find something that is enjoyed by all possible participants. If you have some ideas, comment below and let everyone know.

Herb Crusted Turkey Breast – Mushroom Stuffing

The ingredients mentioned below are suitable for 6 to 8 servings. This is basically an entrée that is delicious and highly recommended for those that do not actually want to cook the entire turkey while still getting the stuffing experience. You can easily prepare, make the herb butter and the stuffing the day before Thanksgiving so that you can release your workload.

Ingredients:

Half a cup of mixed, sliced mushrooms

3 tablespoons of butter

1 tablespoon of chopped garlic

A quarter of a cup of Pecorino Romano cheese and a quarter of a cup of bread crumbs

4 cups of sliced leeks

1 and a half teaspoons of parsley, sage, thyme and rosemary

Pepper and salt according to taste

1 turkey breast – boneless, butterflied – around 2 and a half pounds

How to prepare:

Start by preheating the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Take half of the butter and melt it. Add the garlic and cook for just 10 seconds. Now you have to add the leeks and continue cooking until all the composition is softened. Add the mushrooms until the liquid evaporates and remove from the heat source. Stir in the cheese, breadcrumbs, rosemary, sage, parsley, thyme, pepper and salt. Now set aside.Take the rest of the butter with half tablespoons of rosemary, parsley, sage and thyme.

Take the turkey breast and arrange it with the skin facing down on a surface that is flat. Cover with the use of plastic wrap. Take a meat mallet and gently pound until the thickness is even. Take away the wrap and use pepper and salt to season the meat. Spread the stuffing over the turkey and close up everything so that the stuffing is completely covered. Tie everything with the use of kitchen twine placed at 1 inch intervals.

The reserved herb butter is to be used to rub the turkey over and then everything is arranged in a roasting pan. Roast everything without a cover and baste occasionally till the turkey reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit interior temperature. This should last around 1 hour and a half. Set aside for at least 15 minutes, remove the twine and then serve in slices.

Poblano Peppers Cornbread Stuffing

The ingredients below are suitable for 10 to 12 servings. We are basically faced with a traditional recipe that is modified for modern taste standards. Make sure that you dry out the cornbread if it is too fresh. You can also use gluten-free cornbread and dairy-free by utilizing non-hydrogenated margarine instead of butter.

Ingredients:

Half a stick of butter

2 red bell peppers – chopped and seeded

3 poblano peppers – chopped and seeded

1 green bell pepper – chopped and seeded

2 packages of frozen coms, divided and thawed

1 and a half bunches of onions – sliced

3 eggs

2 and a half tablespoons of salt

2 tablespoons of maple syrup

1 and a half pounds of prepared cornbread

Half a teaspoon of pepper

How to prepare:

Start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Butter a casserole dish that is large enough and set it aside. Heat your remaining butter in a skillet. Add the bell and poblano peppers. Cook and occasionally stir until everything is tender and golden. Add 1 corn bag and the onions. Keep cooking until onions end up translucent. Let everything cool down and then drain the remaining liquid if it is too wet. Pulse the remaining corn in food processors with maple syrup, pepper, salt and eggs.

Take a large bowl and combine the cooled mixture with the corn mixture. Gradually add cornbread. Make sure that you do not mix too much as the stuffing needs to have a texture that is coarse. Move everything to the prepared dish and use parchment paper to cover. Bake everything for forty minutes until the top is golden brown. When that is the case, remove the paper and bake for 15 more minutes.

The Tastiest Thanksgiving Recipes Are The Ones You Rarely Consider!

This is one thing that you should seriously take into account. Both of the Thanksgiving recipes above are not considered too often and they are among the tastiest that you will prepare. What is interesting is that most people just stay focused on the Turkey during Thanksgiving. This is not actually a necessity in the modern world.

You can actually combine the two recipes above and have enough to feed a family of 6 to 12 people. They will appreciate the dinner even without the traditional Turkey. Make sure that you also consider cooking some tasty Thanksgiving desserts so that the entire dinner is better and your guests will love the entire experience.

Use the internet if you do not have inspiration. There are literally thousands of Thanksgiving recipes that are appreciated by people from all around the world. You can combine cuisines from different countries and end up with something that is truly special. Make sure that you get help though in the event that you want to do a lot of cooking. It is really easy to lose track of time. Being prepared is something that is always really important.

With Thanksgiving really close, we need to start preparing.

This is a very light and silky chicken liver mouse Thanksgiving appetizer that includes pickled red onion to offer a different taste than what we are used to.

Ingredients:

2 bacon slices – cut in half an inch dices

2 unsalted butter tablespoons

Half an onion – diced

Salt

White pepper

1 pound of chicken liver

1 peeled small apple – finely diced and cored

A quarter of a cup of brandy

A quarter of a teaspoon of ground allspice

5 egg yolks

1 and a half cups of half-and-half

Pickled red onions and toasted baguette slices – 6

How to prepare:

First, preheat your oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Butter 4 ramekins and melt the butter. In the skillet you used to melt the butter add all the bacon. Cook until your dish is light browned. Use a slotted spoon and put the bacon on a plate. Add chicken liver to the same skillet. Season with the use of white pepper and salt. Use moderate heat to cook and then transfer to your plate.

Add apple, allspice, onions and cook over a low heat setting. Occasionally stir until both the apple and the onion are softened. Take the Calvados and add it. With caution, ignite everything by using a long match. As soon as the flames will subside, scrape the mixture with the use of a blender. Let everything cool down till reaching room temperature.

Add your chicken liver and bacon to the mixture inside the blender. Add egg yolks, salt and half-and-half. Make sure that everything is very smooth by blending as much as necessary. Use a coarse sieve to pass your mixture into a glass measuring cup. The prepared ramekins will welcome the mixture and then you move everything to a roasting pan. Make sure that you add hot water so that half the ramekin’s sides are covered and use foil to cover everything loosely. You now have to bake the mousse for around 90 minutes. Use a thermometer and stop when the temperature recorded is of 155 degrees Fahrenheit. Let the ramekins cool down to room temperature. Cover them and then refrigerate everything, preferably for an entire night. Use Pickled red onions and baguette slices to serve.

Never Forget The Thanksgiving Appetizers!

While you might feel that you do not have enough time to cook Thanksgiving appetizers, this is never actually the case. The chicken liver mousse can be done one day before Thanksgiving and the cashews are really fast. Allow yourself enough time to cook the appetizers that you chose and your guests will definitely love them. These Thanksgiving appetizers basically make the Turkey even tastier.

5 great tips on how to prepare thanksgiving dinner

We all want our entire family near us for Thanksgiving but in many situations holding such a large event can be problematic. This is especially true in the event that you are organizing a thanksgiving dinner in a small apartment or a small house. In many moments it will seem like there is absolutely no way to handle so many guests as you think about but you might want to think again after taking a look at the tips below. Let us learn together how to organize a really large thanksgiving dinner that can be a success.

By Ben Franske (Own work) [GFDL or CC-BY-SA-3.0-2.5-2.0-1.0], via Wikimedia Commons

1. Expand The Eating Area!

We do not necessarily need to eat in the kitchen or in the living room. The dining room is rarely big enough to hold all the members of your family. You can improvise and use more areas of the home. For instance, if you own a house, how about organizing the dinner in the backyard? You can use more than just 1 room and in many situations the porch can also be used.

2. How About A Buffet?

The best possible way to hold a thanksgiving dinner in a small area is to organize a buffet. You cannot fit all the family members in the dining room if space is limited but you can surely add all the food that you cook there. The principle behind this idea is quite simple. You put your food in one part of the home and eat all around the house while your kids enjoy games, the adults chat and basically everyone does what they love.

3. Don’t Forget About Seats!

This is actually a tip that can be considered for all thanksgiving dinners, not just those held in small areas. Whenever you host such a large party, there is the possibility that you cannot accommodate everyone at the table. However, this does not mean that there should be a lack of chairs. You need to know how many guests come and have some extras in the event that someone else shows up. Once again, remember about the backyard area and the seating that might be available there. If you do the math and you realize that there are not as many seats as you need, you can always buy some. Opt for cheap foldable chairs since Thanksgiving is all about spending time with people. You do not necessarily need expensive chairs for that.

4. Disposable Dishes And Utensils For A Worry Free Thanksgiving Dinner

When the thanksgiving dinner party is large and the home is small, it is quite smart to use the disposable dishes and utensils. This helps you out a lot as your home would remain clean and you basically minimize the cleaning work that you have to do after the guests leave. You can even opt for disposables with a Thanksgiving theme.

5. Don’t Forget About Coasters And Placemats!

Make sure that you have as many coasters and placemats as are necessary when the area is small and there are many guests. There are many people that will not have where to put drinks and food. By using coasters and placemats, you can be sure that you will not end up with a mess.

Thanksgiving side dishes are a lot more important than people tend to think at the moment. You need to understand the fact that looking for turkey recipes for Thanksgiving is not the only thing that you have to do. In order to have that perfect family experience with fine dining, you need to also think about thanksgiving side dishes. We will mention the ones that are considered to be classic since you cannot go wrong with them. If you want something really special, make sure that you allow yourself enough time to do your research. These recipes are perfect for those that are in a hurry and that are basically faced with a lack of inspiration when thinking about what to cook for this Thanksgiving.

Mashed Potatoes

It is not at all difficult to make mashed potatoes. We all know that. The classic recipe sees you taking potatoes (preferably Yukon gold) and letting them simmer for 45 minutes in cold salted water. Drain the water, peel and then mash with a maximum of 1 stick of butter. Add hot milk (around 1 cup), pepper, salt and then mash until fluffy and smooth.

That is the easy way to cook mashed potatoes but you might want to spice things up a little. If you use red potatoes you can avoid peeling and then do all the other steps. The result is chunky red mashed potatoes that are both visually appealing and tastier than you might imagine. You could even replace the milk with sour cream and then top with the use of fresh dill to obtain another interesting recipe.

If you like peppers, take 2 chopped peppers (preferably red bell) and sauté them with the use of 1 teaspoon of thyme leaves and olive oil. Cover and do so until tender. Swirl or puree into the classic mesh.

In the event that you want to have a low fat recipe, use the chunky red mash option that we mentioned. Instead of butter, use a quarter of a cup of cooking water. Use plan nonfat Greek yogurt so that you do not use milk. The result is one of the tastiest thanksgiving side dishes.

By Quinn Dombrowski under CC BY-SA 2.0

Green Been Casserole

This is a recipe that takes you a little over 1 hour to make. The actual cooking time is 45 minutes and the result is 4 to 6 servings if you respect the quantities mentioned.

Topping Ingredients:

A quarter of a cup of flour

2 onions – medium sized and thinly sliced

2 tablespoons of panko bread crumbs

Cooking spray – use nonstick

1 tablespoon of salt

Sauce And Main Side Dish Ingredients:

A little more than 2 tablespoons of salt

2 tablespoons of butter – unsalted

1 pound of fresh green beans – halved, trimmed and rinsed

A quarter teaspoon of nutmeg – freshly ground

2 cloves of minced garlic

Half a teaspoon of black pepper

2 tablespoons of flour

1 cup of chicken broth

Cooking Directions:

Preheat your oven to 475 degrees Fahrenheit. Combine the panko, salt, flour and onions in one mixing bowl. Coat a simple sheet pan with the use of the cooking spray and then spread onions evenly on pans. Put the pan on the oven’s middle rack. Bake until the color becomes golden brown. It should take around half an hour. Add the onions 2 or 3 times while cooking and as soon as all is over, remove. Let it settle aside. The oven needs to be turned down to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

Let the onions cook and prepare your beans in the meantime. Add one gallon of water and use 2 salt tablespoons. Let it boil and add blanch together with the beans for five minutes. Drain and then plunge all the beans into a bowl with ice water. Drain and then set aside.

Melt the unsalted butter and add mushrooms, pepper, salt. Cook and stir occasionally. You can stop when the mushrooms become tender. It should be around 5 minutes. Add nutmeg and garlic. Continue cooking for 2 minutes. Add flour over the entire mixture and then stir. Cook for 1 more minute. Add broth and then simmer for 1 minute. Reduce the heat source to medium to low and cook until the entire mixture thickens (around 7 minutes). Stir occasionally.

Remove all from the heat and then stir with a quarter of the onions and the green beans. The rest of the onions would top everything. Place everything in the oven and just bake for 15 minutes. As soon as you remove the green beans, you can serve.

Extra Thanksgiving Side Dishes Tips To Consider

Remember that while you prepare the side dishes, you can always use thanksgiving games for kids in the event that there are young ones so that they do not get bored. Also, keep in mind that the side dishes do tend to be left last and this can turn out to be a mistake. It is best to start at the right time and calculate when the dishes would be ready as you need to serve together with the turkey for the best possible experience.

The bottom line is that you have to plan ahead. You cannot have thanksgiving without the turkey and you cannot have the turkey without side dishes. Take all the time that you need to be sure that you have all the ingredients and if possible, test all the recipes some time in advance, before Thanksgiving. If you prepare for the holiday, you will surely have a great time and everyone will be extremely happy with the experience. Also, remember that your dishes are not everything. You need to also have a loving atmosphere and you need to take into account what this holiday is all about. If everyone is jolly and the food is great, wonderful memories can be created.

Recipe 1 – Perfect Roast Turkey

Just as the name implies, this is quite an interesting one, a favorite among the turkey recipes for thanksgiving. The total preparation time is 3 hours and 20 minutes with cooking lasting 2 hours and a half. You will get 8 servings and the cooking level is intermediate.

Necessary ingredients:

1 stick of butter (non-salted)

1 turkey (around 10 pounds)

1teaspoon of fresh thyme leaves

2 lemons – the juice from one and the other halved

Salt

Black pepper

1 bunch fresh thyme

1 onion cut in quarters

1 head of garlic

How to prepare:

Preheat your oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Melt the stick of butter in a saucepan. Add the lemon’s juice and the zest together with the thyme leaves teaspoon. Set it aside.

Remove the turkey’s giblet and wash it properly. Remove all the extra fat and let the turkey dry. Put it in a large enough roasting pan and add pepper and salt inside the cavity. Also, add thyme bunch, the halved lemon, the garlic and the onion. The outside of the turkey next has to be brushed with that butter mixture you cooked above. Add pepper and salt. Tuck the turkey’s wings under the main body of the turkey and tie the legs to each other.

Roasting the turkey lasts for around 2 and a half hours. Alternatively, when the juice runs clear, you can remove the string with which you tied the legs. After the turkey is done, remove it and use an aluminum foil to cover it. You should have it ready to be served in 20 minutes.

By jdolenga under CC BY 2.0

Recipe 2 – Roasted Thanksgiving Turkey

This is one of the turkey recipes for thanksgiving that is really easy to cook but it does take a little over 1 day to finish. The preparation is around 10 minutes and the actual cooking time lasts 5 hours. However, you do get 18 servings with the ingredients below.

Ingredients needed:

2 cups of apple juice

2 cups of brown sugar

2 gallons of water

2 cups of salt

5 cloves of garlic

4 tablespoons of black peppercorns

3 oranges – peeled and without white pith

2 tablespoons of dried rosemary

5 bay leaves

1 large turkey – 20 pounds

2 sticks of butter – unsalted

3 tablespoons of chopped orange zest

3 tablespoons of fresh rosemary leaves – minced

How to prepare:

Take a large pot. Put in the water, salt, garlic, sugar, apple juice, dried rosemary, peppercorns, bay leaves and the orange peel. Bring everything to boiling point and as soon as that happens, remove from the heat source. Cover the pot and wait until it reaches room temperature. After, put it in the fridge.

Remove the interior bags of the turkey, rinse it with cool water and then put it into a brining bag. Alternatively, you can use a pot but it needs to be large enough. Take the brine mixture and pour it on the turkey. Add more water if it is needed so that the turkey is covered completely. Seal the bag that you used or simply cover your pot so that the turkey is left to brine. This happens in the refrigerator for around 16 to 24 hours, as much time as you have available.

Make sure that you rinse your turkey again and that you soak it in the sink together with fresh water for around 25 minutes. Pat it till it dries. You do this to avoid the possibility of ending up with gravy that is too salty. Your oven next has to be preheated to 275 degrees Fahrenheit.

Use a large roasting pan and put the turkey in with the breast up. Cover it with the use of suitable foil and make sure that it is properly covered in its entirety. You need to roast your turkey for 10 minutes for every single pound. In our case we have to wait for 3 hours and 30 minutes (20 pounds).

Take out the turkey and take the temperature up to 375. The foil has to be removed and you then take the softened butter, mix it with orange peels and rosemary. Rub the resulting “paste” all over the turkey. Use a meat thermometer to control temperature. The turkey can now be put back in the oven. Roast it and add butter every half an hour. When the meat thermometer shows 170 degrees and all juices change color, you are done. Remove the turkey and you are ready to serve.

By Kimberly Vardeman under CC BY 2.0

Extra Recommendations About Turkey Recipes For Thanksgiving

We just presented 2 turkey recipes for thanksgiving. Literally hundreds of others exist. Keep in mind that no matter what you decide to cook, what counts the most is having the necessary time to cook. As you easily noticed, recipe 2 lasts over 1 day while the first recipe is a lot faster. Make sure that you take into account how much time you actually have available. After all, during thanksgiving we also need to do other things and if we do not have enough time to cook our turkey, a lot of people will be disappointed.

It should also be mentioned that you need to follow all indications exactly as they are presented. Alternatively, the quantities of the ingredients can be modified based on the weight of the bird. Not everyone wants to look at turkey recipes for thanksgiving with a bird of 20 pounds but you can still use the same recipe with other quantities.
