Whether you now just moved into a great home or have lived in a house for a long time, you may want to learn about the past owners, especially if there was someone that died in there or not. You may want to learn about this even if you just rent. If you feel that there is something weird, you feel cold spoting when moving towards the hallways or you see shadows in the kitchen, see if someone died there in the past. No matter why you want to investigate, here are some facts that you can consider and things that can help you out a lot.

Talk To Real Estate Agents/Properties

Ask your real estate agent or the home owners about it. In most states disclosure of deaths that are non-violent are not mandatory but owners will be legally obligated to disclose the material facts that are related to properties. In the event that there was a death that took place and the owners are aware that this happened and you ask, disclosure is obligatory.

City/County Records

You need to check the county or city records in order to see the past owners that existed for a property. Research individuals and see what happened to them. Do so based on the individual case. Death certificates need to be pulled in order to see where death took place. It is a really time consuming process but one that can help you to easily see if someone died at the residence or not.

Using The Internet

As soon as you get the past property owner list, the internet will help you to easily learn a lot about them. Property addresses plus names are usually enough to find out information, as long as it was digitally archived.

Local Newspaper Archives

Many of the local newspapers will have records and you can use them in order to see what happened in the past. Newspapers do not have standardized archiving procedures though so everything does vary from one to the next. You will receive the help that you need if you just have the possibility of searching via address.

Talk With The Neighbors

You will be surprised to see how many things neighbors can tell you. They will have a lot of data and will know so much about what happened in the past with the property you think about buying. To make matters even better, neighbors do tend to have absolutely no problem in talking about what happened.

With such a huge history, Italy is sure to have various haunted places that tourists can visit. In fact, it is really hard to make a list of only some. We will stay focused just on the haunted locations that are really well-known and popular among those that are looking for the paranormal.

Palazzo Carmagnola – Milan

This palace was built during the fourteenth century and the rumor is that there are 2 ghosts that haunt it: the original owner (Francesco Bussone) and Lady with an Ermine (Cecilia Gallerani). It is said that you can see Cecilia on the second of November, which is All Soul’s Day in Italy. You surely know her from the painting of Leonardo.

Fenis Castle – Aosta

You can only visit the first floor in this castle. The rest cannot be visited. Not even restorers were allowed to do this. There are tourists that often say they hear sounds that are unexplainable and footsteps. Second floor was utilized by the servants as housing. When you visit, get ready for quite a creepy atmosphere. In fact, the atmosphere is so creepy that this is where Franchia Contro Dracula was shot.

Villa Iomello – Pavia

Commonly referred to as The Lover’s House, Villa Iomello is now abandoned and has a story surrounded by rage and jealousy. In the year 1912 there was a married couple that moved in. The husband came home from a hunting day and found the wife having an affair with the property’s horse keeper. Filled with rage, he shot them both. Then, he killed himself. There is no person in the area that wants to visit the home since that happened.

Devil Monks Monastery – Salerno

This is a name that was predestined for a haunting site. The story says that there was a wanderer that was hungry and that asked the monks for help. He did receive shelter and food. Because of this he stayed there and worked for the monastery. Eventually, he became a monk but after the vows were made, he fell in love. The tragedy is that the monks tortured the woman as they said she was a witch. The woman died and the wanderer went crazy. As time passed, monks disappeared and even people from the village had the same fate. The monk was eventually known as “demonic monk” and was killed by the king’s troops sent to the Devil Monks Monastery to capture him after there was proof that he was a killer. Legend has it that his spirit is still there but no murders happened since the days when the monk lived.

Ca’delle Anime – Genova

Around 200 years ago the house was an inn that was common among those that travelled between Piedmont and Lombardy. The problem was that many that slept there disappeared and were never found. It is not known what happened. According to some reports, the innkeeper recommended a specific quiet room. As soon as the guest fell asleep the ceiling moved towards the floor and crushed the guest. Then the innkeeper is said to take the loot that remains.

For many this is the most haunted places in Italy and what is crazy is that it is still inhabited. People living there often claimed that they experienced various kinetic effects and apparitions were sighted. Maybe you would like to see one of them.

Ghosts can be found everywhere so before deciding you location, think about the type of ghost you want to encounter and try to learn as much as you can about it. Plan everything before going to the ghost hunting spot. Find out when the ghost appears, find out if the ghost is vocal or not and find out the exact spot of their last appearances. After deciding that, do some research about the location. The location will determine the type of equipment and team you’ll need and you will also find out if you need a permit or permission to go to your desired ghost hunting location.

Another important aspect to keep in mind when you go ghost hunting is that you have to arrive early to have time to set up your equipment and to familiarize yourself with the location. Always wear comfortable clothes and shoes and wear something with pockets so you can have a place to store flashlights, batteries and other things you plan to take with you.

Now, when it comes to things to take with you if you go ghost hunting, you have two main categories – things you absolutely need and things that you need only in certain circumstances. For example, flashlights and batteries are mandatory if go ghost hunting at nigh but we are pretty sure you know these things so there is no point in talking about them. We will however talk about the 3 things we thing any ghost hunter needs in any type of scenario.

Log Book

The first thing on our list of things to take with you if you go ghost hunting is a log book. A log book will allow you to keep track of every out of the ordinary event. If you go ghost hunting with a tea, which is something we highly recommend, ask someone to write everything in the book log – changes in weather, changes in temperature, details about the location, strange lights, strange movements, unlikely events like doors closing for no reason and the list can go on and on. Using a recording device is also a very good idea and it might be easier to register someone talking then to write down everything that happens. It is also important to record the thoughts and the feelings you and your team members have while walking around the ghost hunting location.

Camera

Bringing a video camera with you while ghost hunting is also mandatory. Always use new discs or empty memory cards and make sure you use a tripod to make the filming process easier. A digital camera should also be in your bag. The same thing applies here – make sure you use an empty memory card or that you have enough storage.

EMF Meter

Last but by no means least, take an EMF meter with you. An EMF meter, or electromagnetic field meter, is a very useful tool because it measures radiation. In order to detect paranormal activity with an EMF meter, you have to make sure the EMF meter does not detect a strong electromagnetic field that comes from your phones or appliances.
