Technology is moving forward at a fast pace in today’s world. Another product being released in 2013 is the Amazon Phone. This product is a follow up to the very successful line of tablets that Amazon has released with its Kindle and Kindle Fire. The phone will have a very app-heavy focus, which is to be expected since Amazon already has an extensive app store online. What’s most exciting about this soon to be released phone is that it will probably be pretty cheap. You might have heard how Amazon makes no money on the sales of their Kindle Fire devices, but more than makes up money because of the thousands of apps and ebooks that they offer. The same marketing strategy will likely be used for their phone, too, and this is a very good thing for consumers.

Augmented reality glasses—a thing that looks like it’s straight out of a science fiction movie—is also likely to be released in mid 2013. These glasses will hook up to your phone via Bluetooth and display email and web images for you through your glasses. This is quickly becoming a reality for software developers Google and Vuzix, so expect this product to be released in the near future. These are likely to be pretty expensive at first because of their advance technology, but they should be a really cool product to enjoy.

Tech items are progressing quickly, and this is a good thing for the customer. There are so many tech choices out there and many of these are meant to make life easier and more enjoyable. Over the coming year, look forward to many new devices to surface, and get ready for the new trends that these products will create. Everybody remember this sign on Highway 101 in Silicon Valley, San Francisco, California, the beloved and famous Yahoo! billboard which was full of neon lights and oft-changing funny messages. It was like a neighbour to all inhabitants of this area.

It is hard to imagine anyone shedding tears over the loss of a billboard, but a lot of San Franciscans found their eyes watering up the day it has been taken down. Before being removed, many people fought against the loss of this icon of the dot.com era thanks to petitions and Facebook groups like “Save the Yahoo! billboard”.

The creators of this sign, Steve Stone and Bob Kerstetter (from the ad agency Black Rocket) thought it would be up only for one or two years and finally stayed for a decade. They both also remember the best messages on the sign, their favourite ones are “You look cute today” and the guy who proposed his girlfriend in the message space.

Apparently, Yahoo! did not want to pay the monthly sum (between US$ 65,000 and US$85,000) to keep this panel and prefer to focus on new and more innovative communication.

Many people say that the abandonment of this billboard testifies the decline of the company.

Many people do not really understand why Yahoo! didn’t continue its communication through this billboard because it had a lot of success and gave a good image of Yahoo! during this hard period for the company. Yahoo! had shown a negative image those last years. In 2008, the shareholders of Yahoo! neglected two major proposals: one on censorship, another one on Human Rights … In 2007, a mother of a Chinese journalist who has been sent to jail “thanks” to the information provided by Yahoo! China, filed a complaint against Yahoo!. This case poisoned the reputation of Yahoo! for many years. Shi Tao, a Chinese journalist, was sentenced to ten years in prison in April 2005 for “revealing state secrets” to be transmitted abroad for official instructions to the Chinese media on the occasion of the fifteenth anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre in 1989. During his trial, it has been discovered that Chinese police had been traced back to him through the information provided by Yahoo! the e-mail account of Shi Tao, yet registered with Yahoo Hong Kong and not mainland China.

Then, in 2006, Reporters Without Borders tested at the time the various search engines present in China: Yahoo! won handily the censorship tests, beating Google, and Baidu …

Spring is basically here so be sure you’re prepared.  These 3 factors will help prepare those locks for the season ahead:

Spring Clean

Spring-cleaning can go a bit further than vacuuming and picking up around the house.  Spend some time evaluating your beauty products, for example you should get a new hairbrush every 6-12 months.

Using an overused, worn-out brush will show in your hairstyle.   Get a new brush to help your style and outlook on spring have a bit of extra spunk.  It’s probably a good time to stock up on more bobby pins and hair ties, as they frequently go missing for most of us. Embrace a Lighter Style

All of the 1,000 Australians who were evaluated in this study intend to purchase a home within the next two years. About 410 of these home buyers will be between the ages of 30 and 39 at the time of purchase. Another 390 will be between the ages of 18 and 29. Of the remaining 200 survey participants, 140 will be between the ages of 40 and 49 while 60 will be over the age of 50.

Compared to the results of the same survey conducted in 2011, the number of people aged 30 or older who are on the market for their first home has increased 7%, going from 54% in 2011 to 61%.

Saving Money is Harder

One possible explanation for the trend of buying homes later in life is that saving money has become increasingly difficult. The average first time home buyer now spends two years saving for a home instead of 1.8 years as reported in a previous survey. Over the course of these two years, the average home-buyer saves 26% of their monthly post-tax income.

Mortgage Spokesperson Belinda Williamson commented on the shift stating that an increasing number of home buyers may be delaying the purchase of their first home so that they have more time to save money. She also suggested that they may be spending more time researching a home and waiting until they achieve certain financial goals before buying a home.

The number of survey participants who reported job security as a major concern has surged while the number of respondents reporting fear over the rising cost of home ownership or interest rates has significantly lowered.

When asked about the most obstructive barriers to buying their first home, only 13 percent of respondents chose the rising costs of renting, while 20 percent noted rising home prices and 37 percent chose living costs.

Lack of Job Security

Nearly 20% of respondents reported experiencing fear over job security. This number made a huge jump from last year when only 11% of respondents reported job security fears.
Other concerns such as rising home costs and the effect of interest rates have gone down since the 2011 survey.

Belinda Williamson commented on the effect that an unsure job market is having on first time home buyers. She said that although there are several economic indicators including lower home prices and rate cuts, that should encourage people to buy, Australians are still nervous about their job security. She notes that although many people still want to own a home eventually, it is taking them more time to reach a point where they feel financially secure enough to make the purchase.

Why choose home ownership?

The most recent survey indicated that lifestyle factors are the driving force behind property decisions made by first time home buyers.

About 57% of first time home buyers report that their greatest motivator for buying a home is to establish long-term financial security by entering the property market. Nearly half of first time home buyers indicate that their motivation is to have a place to raise their family.

Avoiding rising rent costs is the third largest motivating factor for first time home ownership.

In Summary:

First time home buyers are doing their research and making more informed decisions about when to purchase a home. It is understandable that lifestyle choices and difficulty entering the property market would encourage more people to delay home ownership until later in life.

Additionally, this would suggest that younger Australians are delaying wealth accumulation until later in life.

A majority of Baby Boomers own their homes outright. They have worked hard, paid off their mortgage and for many; their home is their biggest asset. In fact, some business savvy Baby Boomers have borrowed against their home to invest in other properties. For many in this group, owning their home will offer some security when they retire.

On the other token, with more first time home buyers delaying home ownership until later in life, they may find it more difficult to set themselves up financially.
While it is true that they have more superannuation than their parents did, research suggests that the average worker will be unable to accrue sufficient super to have financial security in their lifetime.

The bottom line is that the rules of wealth creation remain the same. Spend less, save more then invest and reinvest until your asset base becomes sufficient.
